Congratulations to Ethan Birdsong, named the Academy Sports Spotlight Player of the Week for week 2 in March.
Birdsong plays for Coach David Turner in the 14U Jackson Division. Last weekend, Birdsong pitched 2.2 innings to lead his team on the mound without surrendering an earned run. He also batted .400 for the weekend with a 1.30 OPS.
Birdsong is an 8th grader at Madison Middle School. Primarily a shortstop, his favorite team is the Cincinnati Reds. He says that his focus and training discipline keeps him in the game and contributes to helping his team win.
Each week during the Spring and Summer seasons Academy Sports + Outdoors presents the Spotlight Player, as voted by SBG Sox coaches and administrators. The nominations are from all age teams in all youth age groups playing that weekend, and are based on the performance of that tournament. Each weekly selection will receive a $20 Gift Card from Academy Sports, good at any location.
At the conclusion of each month, a Spotlight Player of the Month will be selected and recognized for his overall performance for the month. The monthly selection will receive a $50 Gift Card from Academy Sports, good at any location.
