Congratulations to Fischer Howell, named the Academy Sports Spotlight Player of the Week.
Fischer plays for Coach Donnie Bridges in the Hattiesburg Division. Last weekend, Howell was 4-7 at the plate for a .571 batting average. His four hits included two doubles and two home runs...including a grand slam. He had 6 RBI and scored 3 runs, finishing the tournament with a 2.339 OPS.
Fischer attends Petal Upper Elementary and is in the 6th grade. Primarily a shortstop, his favorite team is the New York Yankees. He contributes his great weekend to his hitting instructor Jeff Farris, and listening to his coaches - Donnie Bridges and Josh Thoms.
Each week during the Spring and Summer seasons Academy Sports + Outdoors presents the Spotlight Player, as voted by SBG Sox coaches and administrators. The nominations are from all age teams in all youth age groups playing that weekend, and are based on the performance of that tournament. Each weekly selection will receive a $20 Gift Card from Academy Sports, good at any location.
At the conclusion of each month, a Spotlight Player of the Month will be selected and recognized for his overall performance for the month. The monthly selection will receive a $50 Gift Card from Academy Sports, good at any location.
